Why did you start your business? What is the purpose? Can you remember what motivated you? It’s easy to get so bogged down with the day to day stresses of running your business that you forget why you started it in the first place.
But understanding why you do what you do beyond making a profit can help you build your brand and communicate with your target audience.
Simon Sinek says in his TED talk:
People don’t buy what you do they buy why you do it.Simon Sinek, Start With Why
Understanding and effectively communicating the purpose behind your business can help you connect with your target audience because they can identify with you.
Communicating this purpose through the design of your branding and website is key even for small businesses because you only have a few seconds to make a great impression.
Understanding and Effectively Communicating your purpose gives you the ability to:
- Communicate the story behind your business
- Use video and other visual techniques to create an experience for visitors
- Articulate and present the vision behind your business
- Bring the consumer ‘behind the scenes’ so they can connect with you on a deeper level
- Differentiate your brand/company in the marketplace and attract the right kind of consumers
