We worked with entrepreneur Nichole J Smith to create a custom Genesis theme for her membership website, Working With Dog.
Background
Nichole J Smith is a commercial pet photographer, marketing consultant and dog expert who has helped build many successful pet brands and products for over 10 years. Working With Dog is a community based around providing “petpreneuers” with simple, actionable marketing strategies.
The Brief
Nichole had decided to move her website over to Rainmaker, an “all-in-one” platform for building a web business, complete with membership, marketing, podcasting, and e-commerce. The platform is based on WordPress and uses Genesis Themes. Our brief was to build a custom theme to Nichole’s design.
Our Solution
This project involved creating a custom Genesis theme built without 3rd party plugins as Rainmaker doesn’t allow these.
Website design
Nichole provided the home page design.
WordPress development and build
We built the theme with widget areas for each section and created custom HTML to go in these widgets. This is because Rainmaker doesn’t allow custom fields or custom post types, apart from their own custom post types such as Podcasts and Books. Custom Javascript is allowed so we used BX Slider for the testimonial slider.
We created custom WordPress queries to display the latest Podcasts and Resources.
The theme had to be submitted to Rainmaker for approval after which we added our custom HTML to the various widget areas on the home page.
The rest of the website was set up by Nichole’s resident WordPress expert, Tracey Nichols.
The result
The result is a custom theme built to Nichole’s design, giving her total control over her Working With Dog branding.
